Ystrad Mynach’s Centre for Sporting Excellence plays host as East Wales take on West Wales in under-14s and under-16s rugby league.

The matches, which are part of the Origin rugby league series, are being played over a four-hour period on Saturday March 9, with the first game kicking off at 10am.

Paul Berry, head of youth at Wales Rugby League (WRL), said: “The Origin programme has continued to be a success. The teams have all been training hard since they returned after Christmas and I know that they’ll all be gunning for the win.

“Over the last few years, these matches have developed many junior internationals and Super League scholarship players.

He added: “Some of the U16s who are playing this Saturday have already accomplished both and we know there are many more who will have the skills to achieve the same.”

A minute’s silence will be held before the U14s match in tribute to Kaylan Hippsley, a young rugby player from Hirwaun who was killed after being hit by a car on February 29.

Adult tickets cost £5, while concession tickets are available for £3. Under-16s can enter for £1, while entry is free for under-5s.
