Bargoed RFC Youth miss out in plate final despite “massive” performance

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium

Bargoed RFC Youth missed out on the WRU Clubs U18s plate at Principality Stadium despite a “massive” performance.  

The team reached the finals and headed to the home of Welsh rugby to take on Carmarthen Athletic on March 29. 

The match was a close contest in the first-half, which ended with Carmarthen 10-8 ahead.

But ultimately, the western side claimed the plate with a 34-22 win.

In a post on Facebook, Bargoed RFC Youth wrote: “Couldn’t be any prouder of these boys after yesterday. Despite the score, they gave it their all and put in a massive shift.

“Absolutely fantastic day out at the Principality, and evening back at the club.

“It wouldn’t have been what it was without the six full buses of supporters and others who made their own way down. A massive thank you to everyone.”

The post continued: “Also, a big thank you to our coaches Gav, Ryan, Dan, and Spud. Team manager Leigh, and medics Gareth and Tony. Thank you all for guiding and looking after our boys.

“Also a big thank you to Rhian Mayne for taking loads of photos so the boys will never forget this day. 

“Another big thank you to the one and only Mr Neil Carter for everything he does for the team and the club and for making sure the boys always have what they need with no expense spared. We are all eternally grateful. Also to Christy and the bar staff who put up with us all back at the club week-in and week-out.

“Lastly, Congratulations to Carmarthen Athletic RFC on the win. Enjoy the weekend celebrations gents.”
