Scouts at Abercarn attended a presentation ceremony to receive their awards and badges

Members of Abercarn Scouts have been presented numerous badges and rewards after years of hard work.

Abercarn councillors Denver Preece and Andrew Whitcombe, and Caerphilly County Borough’s deputy mayor, Julian Simmonds, were all in attendance at the ceremony on Friday April 26 to present the awards.

Master at arms badges were handed to Arthur Newman, Faith Parsons, Amelia Richards, Joe Simmons and at a later date will be Zach Veysey, Ollie Bartlett and Owen Richards.

The John Powell Coram award was handed to Arthur Newman, who was Abercarn’s highest scorer in the Crai District’s and Scouts Cymru Competition.

The most promising young scout award was awarded jointly to Amelia Richards and Zach Veysey.

The expedition challenge award – a two day overnight camp – was presented to Thomas Fry, Gethin Terell, Roane Porter and Faith Parsons.

For the first time ever in Abercarn’s 96 year history, a poem was read by scout Thomas Fry, which was met with applause.

The main presentation of the evening was for the chief scout’s gold award, which was handed to Thomas Fry, Gethin Terrell, and Logan Williams
