All Saints Boxing Club in Caerphilly are celebrating two new champions after winning big at this year’s Minors National Championships.

Eleven-year-old Frankie Smith, from Trethomas, and 12-year-old John Henry Janes both “boxed out of their skin” to secure their Welsh vests at the tournament in Sophia Gardens.

Both fighting out of the oldest gym in Caerphilly on Virginia Park, Smith and Henry walked away Welsh champions to the delight of head coach Sweed Johnson.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, the club said: “We’re really proud of the hard work both the boys have put in over the past year.

“We’ve restructured the club recently to focus on bringing youth through so the success of the lads is a great indicator that we’re on the right track.”

The club, which currently trains around 30 boxers, has fighters as young as eight all the way through to adults.

“We’ve experienced plenty of success in the past and we’re really looking forward to the future.”
