A Crumlin-based cidar brewer is raising its glases after getting throughout to the final of the Wales True Taste food and drink awards.

Blaengawney Cider will be judged in the Welsh Assembly Government-backed competition final at the end of this month in Swansea.

The company’s Hallets Real Cider got through to the final after winning the drinks category at the first round stage.

Annie Hallett, from Blaengawney Cider, said: “We are delighted to have received a letter informing us that we won our category and that our cider will be judged in the final at the end of the month.

The company will find out if it has been successful at the awards ceremony in October.

If the company does win, it will add to its success at the recent Welsh Perry and Cider Championships.

The firm won seven gold awards out of 11 categories including overall champion cider for their sweet cider, National Treasure.
