A free to enter fun-packed festival will take over the Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields on Crescent Road, Caerphilly, this weekend.

Ffiliffest, which is being held on Saturday June 8, is Menter Caerffili’s annual celebration of the Welsh language and of local Welsh culture.

Menter Caerffili is a charity aiming to promote and increase the use of the Welsh language on a community level within Caerphilly County Borough.

The event will include performances, entertainment, activities, workshops, food and drink stalls, as well as the chance to buy produce from local businesses.

Menter Caerffili has worked closely with Caerphilly County Borough Council, community groups and performers to plan the event – which is unique to the area.

Hundreds of local school children have been preparing and practising traditional Welsh folk dancing to stage the largest performance in the county as one of the highlights of the event.

The festival, which runs from 11am to 7pm, features performances by Martyn Geraint, Allan yn y Fan, Caerphilly Male Voice Choir, Wonderbrass, Mr Phormula, The Gentle Good, Mei Gwynedd a Band Ty Potas, Iest, Paid Gofyn, as well as performances by local children and young people.

There will also be various food and drink stalls, including vegetarian food and a bar, as well as an arts and crafts tent, retro video games areas and more.

Kira Bissex, of Menter Caerffili, said: “At Ffiliffest, we welcome people of all ages to enjoy the Welsh language and culture in a fantastic setting.

“This event provides opportunities for people to enjoy an amazing programme of performances, lots of activities for children, a food area and information from local organisations. We are really excited to see this event grow year by year.”
