A Volkswagen Polo crashed into a lamppost and a tree along the A469 Thornhill Road at around 3pm on Monday June 10.

A 23-year-old woman from the Pontypool area, who was in the car, was taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

The man, from the Cwmbran area, was also taken to hospital for treatment.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, driving while disqualified, and causing injury by dangerous driving, as well as cocaine and cannabis possession with intent to supply.

He is currently in police custody.

Gwent Police officers attended the crash alongside personnel from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Wales Air Ambulance, and the Welsh Ambulance Service.
