The man who founded one of Wales’ largest co-working spaces more than a decade ago has announced his retirement.

Anthony Record MBE founded the Caerphilly-based Welsh Innovation Centre for Enterprise (Welsh ICE) in 2012.

The start-up business hub, on Caerphilly Business Park, now boasts around 700 members and has helped support thousands of businesses.

Stepping away from the company’s board of directors, Mr Record described his time at Welsh ICE as an “incredible journey”.

Reflecting on his decision, he said: “It has been an incredible journey to watch Welsh ICE grow and support so many talented entrepreneurs over the years.

“While I am stepping down as a director, my commitment to Welsh ICE remains unwavering.”

Lesley Williams, CEO of Welsh ICE, praised Mr Record’s contribution and said: “Anthony’s vision and dedication laid the foundation for what Welsh ICE is today.

“His relentless support and belief in our mission have been pivotal in our journey.

“While we will miss his involvement as a director, we are incredibly grateful for his continued guidance and commitment as the majority shareholder.”

Ms Williams continued: “Anthony’s legacy will always be a part of Welsh ICE, and we look forward to building on the strong foundation he created.”

Mr Record added: “As the majority shareholder, I have full confidence in Lesley and the leadership team in their ability to steer the organisation towards even greater achievements.

“I will continue to support and champion the entrepreneurial spirit in Wales and beyond.”

In recent months, Welsh ICE has worked alongside Caerphilly County Borough Council to offer a pop-up shop for local entrepreneurs at Caerphilly town’s new container market, Ffos Caerffili.
