‘A feeling of relief’: Hefin David MS welcomes new UK Government and talks public transport

Caerphilly Senedd Member Hefin David speaking in the Senedd
Caerphilly’s Labour Senedd Member Hefin David

Hefin David is the Labour Senedd Member for the Caerphilly constituency.

I share with many in our community a feeling of relief that comes with the election of a new Labour government in Westminster and the ejection of the Conservatives.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Chris Evans MP, who was elected as our new Labour MP in Caerphilly. I will continue to work closely with him as I did with his predecessor Wayne David, in facing the challenges to make our way back from the damage caused by 14 years of austerity.

A UK Labour Government will make my job as your Senedd Member a little easier. It will help in uniting the nation and bringing government priorities together. We’ve already seen the new Prime Minister Keir Starmer visit Wales and hold talks with the First Minister about the future of Tata Steel.

The Prime Minister has also made a commitment to re-nationalise the railways in England. Alongside Transport for Wales and our already nationalised rail service, this would mean more seamless cross border train travel for people travelling in and out of Wales.

Public transport has been a contentious issue locally and across Wales, particularly bus services.

I have recently received the update that the Stagecoach services 26 and 86X will revert back to their previous routes, as a result of Welsh Government funding and support from Caerphilly Council. This will be of great relief for the many who attended my bus surgery in March, who described the issues they were experiencing as a result of the merging of the two services.

There will also be extra buses added to the A and B services in the mornings to support those who commute to work, by running alongside the increased train services being provided by Transport for Wales on the Rhymney line.

If you think there is anything I can do to help you, please get in touch and I will do my best to do so.
