The group met at Pen y Fan on Saturday July 27

Members of Deri Dementia Care and Support group have hiked up Pen y Fan to raise awareness and encourage others to reach out.

On a sunny Saturday morning, around two dozen group members along with friends and family met at the bottom of the highest peak in south Wales.

Secretary of the group, Jeff Smith, spoke to Caerphilly Observer about the walk: “There was a range of walkers starting from six-years-old all the way through to mid-50s.

“It started off as a very nice day but the heavens opened once we reached the top. Everyone did it in their own time but the point of the walk was raising awareness.”

Around 30 members in their 60s, 70s and 80s attend the weekly two-hour meetings.

Jeff thanked Morrison’s for donating fruit and water to the group, as well as Rhymney House Hotel for providing refreshments when the walk had finished.

He continued: “I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved and sponsored the group.”
