Gerwyn Price stormed to his second World Series title of the year after destroying Luke Littler in the Australian Darts Masters final.

Price, from Markham, beat the 17-year-old 8-1 in Wollongong, New South Wales, on Saturday August 10 to take home the £20,000 top prize.

The Iceman surged into an early 4-0 lead with a 112 average over Premier League champion Littler, who had no answer to Price’s sustained brilliance on the night.

While the wonderkid won leg six, Price went on to win the next three legs to deny Littler an eighth title in as many months.

Speaking after the win, Price said: “Luke is playing fantastic darts at the moment, and that probably kicked me into gear.

“I know I need to play well against every player, but especially against this young talent, so I was right up for this game.

“I haven’t been playing well over the last couple of months, but I really wanted to win this one.”

He added: “We can all hit nine, ten, 11, 12-darters, but the game is all about confidence, and this will give me the big confidence boost that I needed.”

En route to the final, Price defeated Australia’s Brenton Lloyd 6-2 in the opening round, before beating another Aussie, Damon Heta, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.

Price then edged past two-time world champion Peter Wright 7-6 in the semi-finals to book his place in the showpiece.

Following Price’s triumph in Wollongong, the sport’s stars will cross the Tasman Sea to New Zealand for the second leg of the World Series’ Oceanic double-header this weekend.

The New Zealand Darts Masters will be held in Hamilton between August 16 and 17, with a 16-player line-up competing for the title across two days of action.
