Aber Valley overcame the odds to beat Ponterdawe
Aber Valley overcame the odds to beat Ponterdawe and reach the first round

The first round draw of the FAW Welsh Cup has been made, with three Caerphilly-based sides featured.

Trethomas Bluebirds have a very tough test on the road to fellow Cymru South opposition in Taffs Well. The pair met recently in a 3-0 win for Mark Dunford’s Bluebirds, but that’s a very harsh draw for both sides so early in the competition.

Ardal South East side Risca United will also be playing away from home as they face Cardiff Corinthians, who play in the equivalent league as the Cuckoos.

Nathan Bracegirdle’s side will perhaps be looking to make a good go at a cup run after a shaky start to their league campaign.

Finally, after an impressive underdog victory on the weekend, Aber Valley will be the only Caerphilly side to play at home this round, as they’re set to welcome Cwmamman United to Aber Park.

Dean Wood’s side are sure to fancy their chances again in what’s always a difficult trip for any away team.

All three fixtures are due to be played on either Friday September 20 or Saturday 21.
