The ‘walking councillor’ Andrew Farina-Childs is back on his travels as he aims to raise £500 for Blackwood Little Theatre.
The independent Blackwood councillor was approached by members of the popular theatre on Woodbine Road as it looks to make its facilities “more inclusive”.
Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, Cllr Farina-Childs said: “The theatre has found it really difficult to find funding to improve its accessibility.
“With this money that I hopefully raise, the group will be able to invest in a ramp and disabled toilets making it more inclusive for all to enjoy.”
The challenge itself will run throughout the month of September, in which Cllr Farina-Childs hopes to complete 125 laps of Blackwood Showfield – the equivalent distance of 94 miles.
“We chose this number because it’s the distance between the Little Theatre and the Old Vic Theatre in Bristol and back.”
Asked how it has gone after three days, Cllr Farina-Childs said how pleased he was to see 17 people join him on the first day, adding how he’ll be out in “all weather”.
The councillor admitted he’d been struggling with knee pain for the past 15 months, but is now gladly back to “full fitness” – making the walking a lot more enjoyable.
