Wales’ women’s walking football team, Cymru Amdani Hi, are preparing to play a home nations tournament later this month, with several Caerphilly players set to feature.

Amy Ryan plays for Caerphilly Castle Ladies & Girls FC, who established their walking football section a year ago.

On Saturday September 28, Amy and the rest of the Wales squad are set to travel to Redditch where they’ll face the likes of Ireland and England in a two-day tournament.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, Amy said: “We travelled to Morocco earlier this year as a smaller squad as we normally play in age groups.

“This tournament though we’re taking two squads. It should be a competitive weekend.”

As walking football is self-funded, the players recently undertook a ten-mile walk to raise some money.

“We have an assistance fund for those players who may struggle to pay for tournaments with travel and kit etc.”

Amy added how “brilliant” it is to see so many people getting involved in walking football, and encouraged others to give it a go.
