Markham’s Gerwyn Price fell to a second round defeat at the Hungarian Darts Trophy over the weekend, despite taking a 5-2 lead.
Price’s opponent, Wessel Nijman, reeled off four consecutive legs to snatch victory away from the Iceman on Saturday September 21 – coming away with a 6-5 win.
Dutchman Nijman, 24, went on to earn a convincing 6-1 victory over 2024 World Darts Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams in the next round.
However, his tournament came to an end in the quarter-finals, when compatriot Gian van Veen – who would go on to reach the final – beat him 6-2.
The competition would be won by another Dutchman, with Michael van Gerwen, who ended a 16-month drought on the PDC European Tour with a sensational 8-7 win over Van Veen on Sunday night.
