There were recent performances at two schools in Caerphilly

Award-winning alcohol awareness theatre production, ‘Smashed’, has been performed at two Caerphilly schools, in hopes of preventing underage drinking.

Smashed, an international educational theatre production by Collingwood Learning, has been running for 20 years, and has reached 580,000 students in the UK alone.

Combining drama with interactive workshops, Smashed uses professional actors to present a 25-minute performance, followed by a 35-minute workshop where participants reflect on the themes and answer questions about the choices made by the characters.

Recently, the cast and crew paid a visit to Idris Davies School in Abertysswg and Heolddu Comprehensive School in Bargoed.

The organisers claim these sessions have led to 78% of students stating they are less likely to drink alcohol underage.

With a goal to educate ten million young people by 2030, the programme expanded in 2021 with Smashed online, which uses filmed clips, interactive tools, and assessments that can be completed in schools or from home.

For more information on the Smashed and its upcoming tour, you can find information online.
