A new Sporting Memories club is set to open at Caerphilly RFC

A charity aimed at bringing former sports players together is looking for volunteers as it prepares to launch a new club in Caerphilly.

Sporting Memories Wales intends on opening its latest club at Caerphilly RFC, with the intention of improving the mental and physical wellbeing of former sports players in the area.

The club will be aimed at those over 50, with sessions consisting of quizzes or activities, as well as everyone reminiscing about their playing days.

Rob Baker, project co-ordinator at the charity, said: “If you have an interest in supporting older people then we’d really love for you to get involved with the new Sporting Memories Club at Caerphilly RFC.

“The club is almost ready to go, but we need volunteers who are willing to give up a bit of their time during the week to help get the sessions up and running.

“We know from our other clubs how much of a difference they can make to the lives of older people, from avoiding being isolated and alone, to helping get them active again.”

“You don’t have to love sport to join us, all we require is a positive attitude and our members will help with the sporting knowledge over time.”

Training is provided for free for potential volunteers through an online session.
