Jacob’s fish and chip shop opened earlier this year

A fish and chip shop, named in memory of the owners’ late son, has celebrated its first nine months in Cefn Fforest.

Jacob’s fish and chip shop brands itself as a ‘community-focused’ restaurant, with homage paid to owner Ross Turner’s late son, Jacob.

Supported by a £30,000 grant from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the chippy opened its doors in March this year.

The shop, on Bedwellty Road, was in a state of disrepair when first bought, but now has new fryers thanks to the grant, including five separate fryers for fish, gluten-free options, meat, and beef dripping.

The grant also funded significant renovations, including decoration, window installations, access points, and signage to make the venue both accessible and appealing.

Ross Turner, a former police constable in Blackwood, alongside his business partner Jamie Harris, have expressed gratitude towards the council, who helped facilitate the grant funding and overall move.

In addition to dine-in services, Jacob’s Fish and Chips has partnered with Blackwood Eats to offer a delivery service.

The restaurant currently employs seven full-time staff, along with 14 part-time staff, with future plans to expand the preparation area and eventually open another location.
