Boxer Lauren Price MBE is in Liverpool ahead of her world title defence against Colombia’s Bexcy Mateus.

Price, 30, from Ystrad Mynach, will fight to retain her WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine World Welterweight titles against her unbeaten South American opponent on Saturday December 14.

A victory for Price could set up an all-British unification clash with welterweight rival Natasha Jonas.

Unbeaten since signing a professional contract with Boxxer in 2022, Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Price last fought in May, where she beat former undisputed world welterweight ruler Jessica McCaskill in Cardiff.

It was Price’s seventh fight as a professional – a fight that saw her become Wales’ first-ever female world champion.

Round by round: How Lauren Price became boxing world champion

Ahead of her Saturday match-up, Price has weighed in at 10st6, while Mateus goes into the fight at 10st5 and 5oz.

After this fight was announced last month, Price said: “I’m excited to be out defending my belts to finish what has been a big year for me.

“I have full respect for Mateus. I’ll prove I’m the best in the division and I won’t let anything, or anyone, stand in my way of becoming undisputed.”

Mateus, who is ranked fifth with the WBA, is undefeated in the professional ranks, having won all but one of her seven fights by knockout.

The fight will be her first fight outside of her native Colombia – and she will be looking to dethrone Price.

Ben Shalom, CEO and founder of Boxxer, said: “It’s a huge night for the women’s welterweight division with three world champions in action.

“Natasha Jonas is back in her hometown for a must-win unification fight against Ivana Habazin and Lauren Price defends her world titles against unbeaten contender Bexcy Mateus. The battle for undisputed is on.

“If Natasha and Lauren both win on December 14, it will set the stage for a massive ‘Battle Of Britain’ world title unification match up next year.”

“When it comes to supporting our own, we’re a very proud nation”
