A “callous and dangerous” paedophile who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in a park has been jailed for a total of four years and six months.

Dean Williams, 29, of Avondale Street, Abercynon was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday January 24.

Williams, who was 26 at the time, assaulted his young victim in a park in Caerphilly in August 2022 after he had added her on Snapchat.

He was given a four-year and six-month sentence for sexual activity with a child, as well as an 18-month sentence for making an indecent image of a child. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve them at the same time.

‘Dangerous man’ jailed after series of sexual offences against children

Williams will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, and has been given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

He has also been ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge – which goes towards funding victim services – within six months of release.

Detective Sergeant Michael Coles, of Gwent Police, thanked the victim for coming forward and showing “tremendous bravery and courage” throughout the investigation and court process.

DS Coles said: “By coming forward, they’ve helped put a callous and dangerous man behind bars.

“Dean Williams targeted a young, and therefore vulnerable, girl for his own sexual gratification and we welcome the sentence that has been imposed on him.

“I also hope this outcome shows other victims of rape and sexual offences that they will be listened to, believed and respected.”
