Gerwyn Price won Players Championship 2 in Wigan

Gerwyn Price has won his first PDC ranking title in over a year after beating Chris Dobey in the Players Championship 2 final.

Price was beaten by Dobey at last month’s World Championship, and again in last week’s Premier League Darts opener in Belfast.

But it was a different outcome in Wigan on Tuesday February 11, with Price sealing an 8-7 win to clinch silverware.

Price, from Markham, won five of the last six legs to win what was his first ProTour crown since November 2023.

En route to the final, Price recorded wins over William Borland, Danny Lauby, Jonny Clayton, and Martin Schindler, before knocking out reigning world champion Luke Littler at the quarter-final stage.

Price then booked his spot in the final with a 7-5 semi-final victory over Ryan Searle.

However, the Iceman found himself 6-3 down against Dobey in the final, but staged an impressive charge to pull through and scoop the £15,000 top prize on the night.

“I think Chris played better than me in that final, but I hung in there until the end,” claimed Price, after winning what was his 18th Players Championship title.

“Today has been brilliant. Yesterday I played really well too; I’m getting back to my best.

“I’m enjoying the game more. I think my mentality and the way I think has changed, and it has just benefitted me.”

Price admitted: “I had a little bit of help with a sports psychologist before the World Championship, which really helped.

“There’s a lot more positivity in my game now, and it seems to be working.

“I know how well I am playing, but when it comes to the big games sometimes, I am trying too hard because I want it too much.”

He added: “This is what I needed. This win will hopefully make things come a little bit easier, because when you’re winning you don’t try too hard.”
