More than £85,000 is spent each year clearing litter from dual carriageways, a senior Caerphilly County Borough councillor has revealed.
Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for waste, has said the “inconsiderate littering” causes a “blight on our countryside”, as he appealed for residents to play their part to keep the borough tidy.
Cllr Morgan continued: “We spend a significant amount of money and resources clearing litter from our strategic highway network.
“I would urge local people to do their bit to help make our county borough a cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit.”

The council said it takes time and money to safely clear busy roads and verges, meaning they only arrange clean-ups a few times a year.
Cllr Morgan added: “It can be challenging and costly to carry out this work, particularly when our budgets are under such pressure. This money can be better spent on delivering other key services, rather than clearing up the mess left by an inconsiderate minority.”
Plans are currently being made to start the next round of work over the coming weeks, according to the council.
Dates and locations for the next scheduled litter pick in March will be announced by the local authority over the coming weeks.
