Residents at the care home in Cefn Hengoed have recorded a number of episodes to be aired on YYFM Radio

Residents of Valley View Care Home in Cefn Hengoed are sharing their “treasured memories” as part of a new project hosted by hospital radio station, YYFM.

YYFM, or Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr FM, was created by Steven Davies in February 2021, as a free and accessible hospital radio station for patients in Ystrad Mynach.

This latest storytelling project aims to “capture and preserve personal stories” according to Lynne Williams, who is a volunteer at YYFM Radio.

At the recent launch event, care home residents gathered alongside the YYFM team, all eager to hear the first installment – with more planned throughout the year.

The initiative will “foster connections between generations”, according to Lynne, who added how it will also help “highlight the rich history and personal experiences from within the local community”.

Valley View’s manager described the project as a “meaningful way to give residents a voice and celebrate their pasts”.

She also praised YYFM Radio for this “unique” opportunity to bring “authentic local stories” to the airwaves.

You can listen to YYFM Radio online.
