Pupils from the primary school rang alongside some of their teachers

Pupils from Graig y Rhacca Primary School have raised more than £1,000 for a children’s charity after completing the Caerphilly 2k.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital is set to benefit from the fundraising efforts, with pupils at the school running alongside some of their teachers on Sunday May 11.

According to Mrs Hunt, a teacher at the primary school, the idea came from Jane Ensor – a grandmother to four of the children who took part in the race.

Mrs Hunt continued: “From there, it quickly progressed. A JustGiving page was set up with an initial donation target of £100.

“In the lead-up to the race, each day the total fund increased and all were amazed to see the total jump in the hundreds. The whole school community were so supportive and generous with their donations.”

The pupils had been practising since March in the school’s running club, led by Mrs Hunt and Mrs Lawrence, which was held every Monday after school.

The pupils reportedly showed great commitment and determination, turning up each week and putting in the effort to get stronger and faster.

To support the pupils in achieving their best on the race day, Mrs Hunt, Mrs Lawrence, Mr Ludlow, and Mrs Pepperall all ran with the children, encouraging them each step of the way.

The children’s desire to help others and fundraise was “inspirational” according to Mrs Hunt, who added: “Their energy, teamwork, and kindness shone through on the day of the run, and the school community couldn’t be more proud of what they have achieved.”
