Miss Tina Sparkle performed at this year’s Pride Caerffili

It may have rained on the parade, but the wet weather certainly didn’t dampen spirits as Pride Caerffili returned for a third year.

The event, which was held in Caerphilly town centre on Saturday July 5, was officially opened by Ystrad Mynach’s boxing superstar Lauren Price MBE.

The day-long celebration included live entertainment and an iconic Pride Parade to celebrate the contributions made by LGBTQ+ people in our society.

The inaugural Pride Caerffili event was held back in 2023, and the celebration of diversity was welcomed once again by the town and the wider borough in what is now a regular event on Caerphilly’s calendar.

The parade started at around 12pm and went through the town – past St Martin’s Church, down Cardiff Road, and past Caerphilly Castle before finishing in the Twyn car park.

A dalek joined the celebrations

The event was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council. Its deputy leader, Cllr Jamie Pritchard, described this year’s edition as “a knockout event”.

He said: “It was great to have Olympic and world professional boxing champion, Lauren Price opening this year.

“Great to join the parade and enjoy the whole day. Thank you to all who came along.”

Attendance figures are expected to be released soon by the council.
