A town centre road in Caerphilly will be closed for up to three months while gas pipes are upgraded.
The works, which begin on Monday September 8, will be carried out along Nantgarw Road and Crescent Road.
Wales and West Utilities, which is behind the project, said the work is expected to be completed before Christmas.
Nantgarw Road will be closed between Crescent Road and Castle Street during the works.
Wales and West Utilities said it has worked with Caerphilly County Borough Council to plan the work, and is funding a Stagecoach shuttle bus during the closure period.
Andrew Coleman, who is managing the work, said: “We have worked closely with the council to minimise impact on visitors to the town, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
He added: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Caerphilly area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
