Parklands Care Home threw a party to remember the former Double Diamond Club

Bringing the glitz and glamour of the West End to Caerphilly, the legendary Double Diamond Club once hosted the likes of Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, and Roy Orbison during its 1970s heyday.

Other visitors to the venue, on Mill Road, included King Charles III during his time as Prince of Wales – while the club also hosted touring international rugby sides and an array of indoor sports.

However, it would eventually close in the 1980s, with a housing estate now in its place.

But long after the iconic cabaret club disappeared, its memory lives on.

Recently, residents at Bedwas’ Parklands Care Home came together to reminisce about the venue.

Staff at the care home transformed the dining area with lanterns, a sparkling ceiling, and authentic decorations to recreate the club’s atmosphere.

A stage was also set up at the home, with a singer performing a specially curated setlist of songs from the legendary artists who once graced the Double Diamond stage.

Residents were also shown original photos, posters, and memorabilia from the club, bringing back treasured memories.

Residents from other HC-One managed care homes – including Church View on St Martin’s Road in Caerphilly, Trafalgar Park in Nelson, and Aberpennar Court in Mountain Ash – all came to Bedwas to join in with the celebrations.

Adding to the celebration, the event coincided with the birthday of Parklands’ home manager, Amy Campbell, who said: “It was such a joy to see the smiles, laughter and even a few happy tears as we brought the Double Diamond back to life.

“For our residents, this wasn’t just an event, it was a chance to relive some of the happiest times of their lives, surrounded by music, friends and community.

“We’re so grateful to our amazing team, our talented singer, and everyone who contributed to making the day so special.”
