Crowds of people came together across Caerphilly County Borough on Sunday to pay their respects on Remembrance Day.

Services were held in towns and villages throughout the borough, as residents gathered at local war memorials to observe the two-minute silence and lay wreaths in honour of those who lost their lives in conflict.

Veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces were joined by residents, councillors, Members of Parliament and Senedd Members, as well as representatives from the police, fire service and community groups.

Parades also took place in several communities, with standards proudly carried and buglers sounding the Last Post to mark the occasion.

Aberbargoed remembers

There was a large gathering at Aberbargoed’s Memorial Garden for the community service.

Schoolchildren from Bargoed Primary School, Heoldu Comprehensive School and Ysgol Brosannan all did readings, with the service led by Rev Andrew Nelmes of St Peters.

Community councillor Yvonne Price thanked Caerphilly County Borough Council for work to refurbish the garden’s gates, and also praised volunteers for their efforts in getting the garden ready and looking at its best for Remembrance Sunday.
