Saturday’s Bargoed Christmas Market has been cancelled because of a forecast of high winds, Caerphilly County Borough Council has confirmed.
It is the third year in a row where a festive fair has been cancelled in Bargoed due to poor weather.
The event, due to take place on Saturday December 6, was called off after updated forecasts showed gusts reaching up to 43mph — above the safety limits for temporary structures such as market stalls.
A council spokesperson said safety had to come first.
They said: “The latest forecast shows gusts of up to 43mph, which exceeds the safety limits of temporary structures such as market stalls. Therefore, we have no option but to cancel the event, as safety is paramount and we also need to give traders, suppliers and visitors adequate time to rearrange their plans.”
The authority has announced the market will be rescheduled for Saturday March 21, 2026, promising that Bargoed “will get the event it deserves”.
Next year will also see a wider programme of events coming to the town, with the council saying three major events are planned for 2026.
