Environmental regulator Natural Resources Wales has launched an investigation after pollution was reported in a tributary of Nant Caeach near Nelson.
NRW said it was told about the pollution on Saturday January 3 and later identified the source as a slurry spill. Nant Caeach flows into the Taff Bargoed, which in turn flows into the River Taff.
In a statement, NRW said: “We’re aware of recent pollution affecting the Taff Bargoed and its tributaries near Nelson, Caerphilly.
“Our officers investigated and identified the source as a slurry spill. The source of the pollution has now been stopped, and the operator has made efforts to contain the pollution.
“You may notice some discoloured water along a stretch of the river, but this is expected to clear over time.
