A documentary exploring south Wales’ industrial heritage will be showcased at Blackwood Miners’ Institute.
The Coal Beneath Our Feet, The Wind Above Our Heads will be shown on Wednesday March 4 at 7pm, with the event free to attend.
The documentary follows the journey of two young people from a former mining community as they explore the Valleys’ past and question what it means for their future. Through personal stories and community voices, the film connects the region’s industrial history with present-day challenges and opportunities.
It explores key moments in valleys history, including the 1984/85 miners’ strike.
Through encounters with former miners, organisers and people involved in community and renewable energy projects, the film considers how valleys communities can learn from the past to imagine new, hopeful futures rooted in collective strength and local action.
Following the screening, audiences will be invited to take part in a Q&A with the documentary’s cast, before joining a wider community discussion about the themes of the film and what they could mean for future action locally.
The screening forms part of a wider tour of venues across the South Wales Valleys. Visit TicketSource for further tour dates and details.
Support for the tour has come from a range of organisations including UNISON Cymru, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), the Communication Workers Union, St Elvan’s Coalfields Regeneration Trust – Wales, and Community Energy Wales.
