Lewis School Pengam

Three Caerphilly County Borough schools have closed early today (Thursday January 8) after the Met Office issued Yellow and Amber warnings for snow and ice.

Bargoed’s Heolddu Comprehensive, Lewis School Pengam, and Idris Davies School in Abertysswg, all closed between 1pm and 2pm.

A council spokesperson said: “Schools north of Pengam (Bargoed, New Tredegar, Rhymney) have been advised to consider travel arrangements for pupils and staff given the Amber weather warning from the Met Office.

“As a precaution, some schools have taken the decision to close early.”

Idris Davies School was also closed on Monday January 5 due to the icy weather, alongside Rhymney’s Ysgol y Lawnt, Deri Primary School, and Y Cwmpawd Gilfach.

Visit the council’s website for more information about school closures.
