A new support group has been launched to help carers in Caerphilly, with monthly coffee and cake meet-ups starting from next week.
Kaddy Thomas, founder and CEO of Carers Collectives, started the Coffee, Cake and Collaborate group to give carers the chance meet others who understand them and their struggles.
Kaddy, 57, is herself an unpaid carer to her 19-year-old son, Elijah, who receives two-to-one care around the clock.
Kaddy said: “Coffee, Cake and Collaborate is the kind of community I’ve always wanted on my own journey as I’ve cared for Elijah. As an unpaid carer you have to take on so many roles, and it can feel like the loneliest place in the world.
“I hope this provides a real lifeline to other carers, so they realise they are no longer alone.”
The first monthly session is being held at Rosita’s Cafe Bar in Caerphilly between 10am and 12pm on Tuesday January 27.

The group welcomes all carers regardless of their financial situation and offers a reimbursement fund for those unable to afford refreshments.
