Three choirs are joining forces for a series of concerts as they prepare to perform on the national stage.

Aber Valley Male Voice Choir is teaming up with Rhymney Silurian Choir and the Ebbw Vale-based Beaufort Male Choir to perform three concerts.

Around 100 choristers are taking the stage together this spring. They will then be joined by ten other choirs for a gala performance at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on Sunday June 27.

The event is being organised by the Welsh Association of Male Choirs in aid of Prostate Cymru, and will feature guest soloists Wynne Evans and the former Royal harpist Alis Huws.

The first concert was held in Ebbw Vale on February 28, with the second being held at St Helen’s Church, Nantgarw Road, Caerphilly, at 7pm on Friday March 27.

The third is being held at Idris Davies School in Abertysswg at 7pm on Saturday April 18.

“These concerts provide an unmissable opportunity to witness Welsh male choral singing at its powerful and sensitive best,” said Geraint Evans BEM, musical director of Aber Valley Male Voice Choir.

Mr Evans, who is the current longest continuously serving conductor of a male choir in the UK, continued: “The repertoire will vary from the Mersey Beat era to rousing Welsh hymns, from moving classical pieces to West End musicals.”

Paul Newman, chairman of Aber Valley Male Voice Choir, said: “As well as being a key component of our living heritage, choirs continue to play a crucial role in keeping our communities vibrant.

“To choristers, the regular attendance at weekly rehearsals helps combat loneliness, establish new friendships, enhance health and wellbeing, and provide opportunities to learn new skills and show them off in public.”
