New padel courts could come to Cwmcarn

A developer has set out plans to convert a Cwmcarn warehouse into a leisure attraction, with padel courts among the proposals for the space.

Applicant Oliver Mason is behind the plans for a “hub of activity and wellbeing” at the Chapel Farm Industrial Estate.

His submissions to Caerphilly County Borough Council outline proposals to transform an empty unit there into “a sports and leisure hub covering a wide and niche range of sports”, in a “fun, relaxing environment that caters for all ages”.

Those proposals would seek to welcome to the hub between ten and 15 businesses which otherwise have “limited or no access to high-quality indoor facilities”.

Mr Mason stated the activities at the hub would include those not currently offered in and around the Cwmcarn area.

The application includes designs for four padel courts inside the unit.

The racquet sport, which combines elements of tennis and squash, has grown in popularity across the UK in recent years.

The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0173/COU.
