CAERPHILLY: New ‘high-quality’ flats proposed above village shop

A developer has submitted plans for two new flats above an Abertridwr shop.

The property at 1 The Square was most recently a greengrocer’s store, and the ground-floor retail unit would be retained under the new proposals.

Applicant Chris Davies has proposed converting the two upper floors to create a new two-bedroom flat on each level.

Designs submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show each flat would also have an open-plan kitchen and living room area, as well as a bathroom.

In a recent Facebook post, Davies Property Developments said they wanted to “bring the building up to date while keeping its character and purpose within the community”.

“Our aim is to create two high-quality, fully upgraded homes while preserving the shop as an important part of the valley’s high street and history,” the developers said.

They also added they had turned down “several offers to turn the building into an HMO”, because they believed that type of property was not “right for this building or the area”.

The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0277/FULL.
