Plans for new homes at a former ambulance hall in Bedwas have been resubmitted, after a chopped-down tree thwarted an earlier bid.

Applicant Nigel Willetts hopes to convert the old St John Ambulance hall, on Pandy Road, for residential use, comprising a pair of two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats.

Caerphilly County Borough Council planning officers rejected his first application earlier this year, after judging a “recently-felled” sycamore tree on the property had not been acknowledged in the plans.

They said the tree “contributed to the visual amenity of the area” and concluded the application for the redevelopment “fails to provide compensatory or replacement planting to mitigate this loss”.

The new application includes proposals for two new trees on the property, along with more areas of planting than was included in the original proposal.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 26/0355/COU.
