Nelson will host its first-ever Pride event this weekend, bringing together residents for a day of celebration, inclusion, and charity fundraising.
Organised by Kiri Joanna Coleman, the event is being held at the Dynevor Arms on Saturday June 20.
The event has already sold more than 160 tickets so far, with more expected on the door on the day.
From what started as a casual conversation in a pub with friends, the event has exceeded Ms Coleman’s expectations as she was forced to move venues after the incredible response to ticket sales.
Ms Coleman, a Nelson resident and social worker, wanted to prove that Pride belongs in every community, despite having no prior event organising experience.
She said: “I wanted to create something positive for our community, somewhere people could come together, celebrate who they are and support an incredible cause at the same time.
“The response has been overwhelming and it shows there is a real appetite for more inclusive events in the Welsh valleys.”

All proceeds from the event will go towards Llamau, a Wales-wide homelessness and domestic abuse charity, and its Ty Pride project.
The Ty Pride project provides specialist 24-hour supported housing for young people aged between 16 and 25, who are at risk of homelessness, offering a safe environment and mental health support.
During the event, Newport-based female drag queen Sue De Creme will be present, providing a DJ set, karaoke, and more.
The event coincides with Pride Month, which is celebrated globally throughout June to mark the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York – a key point for the gay rights movement in the USA and around the world.
Tickets can be bought on the door.
