Swimming pool reopens after five-week closure

The swimming pool at Newbridge Leisure Centre is reopening following a five-week closure.

The pool closed in June to allow improvement works to be carried out, and reopens on Friday July 24 – a week later than originally planned.

Works included poolside retiling, a refurbishment of the women’s changing rooms, and the fitting of temporary boilers.

New lockers, changing room furniture and permanent boilers are due to be installed over the coming weeks, Caerphilly County Borough Council confirmed.

During the closure, Cefn Fforest Leisure Centre extended its opening hours to compensate for the Newbridge closure. However, it will revert back to its original reduced hours from Saturday July 25.

Swimming lessons at Newbridge will resume on Tuesday July 28.

Cllr Chris Morgan, council cabinet member for leisure, said: “The additional time taken to complete these essential improvements has allowed us to deliver a comprehensive programme of works that will improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of the facility, while enhancing the experience for our customers.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while these works were completed.”
