An Oakdale pub has won a bid to serve alcohol at a new bar and outdoor area, after a neighbour withdrew their opposition over noise concerns.

The Cross Oak Inn’s owners also asked for permission to play music in its beer garden during the spring and summer months, and to open slightly earlier so they could start selling breakfasts.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s licensing committee was due to hear the application at a meeting on Monday July 27, but last-minute talks meant a neighbour’s objections to the plans were settled ahead of the meeting.

Council licensing manager Lee Morgan said the pub’s application would instead be approved in line with his department’s recommendation.

In a committee report, Mr Morgan noted the police and council’s environmental health and trading standards teams had offered no objections to the application, and had agreed licence conditions with the applicant.

They include the pub’s management “actively” monitoring noise when there is outdoor entertainment, and that volume levels will be “maintained at an appropriate level”.
