A Bargoed man has been jailed for six-and-a-half years for shaking his baby son to death.
Cardiff Crown Court was told how David Morris, 28, caused his five-month-old son Jay to have brain damage, and a torn liver, after shaking him in the family home in December 2009.
After the shaking, Morris, who admitted manslaughter, did not get medical help for baby Jay and laid him down in his Moses basket. He later died.
During the police investigation, Morris persuaded Jay’s mother, Nicola Payne, to lie and claim she had fallen down the stairs while holding the baby.
Speaking after the case, Detective Chief Inspector Pete Jones of Gwent Police said he hoped the sentence would provide closure to Jay’s family.
