Fleur-De-Lys flower festival hailed a success

Fleur-De-Lys burst into song and colour at the weekend for its fifth annual flower festival.

Islwyn MP Chris Evans joined Ed Berry, headteacher at Fleur-de-Lys Primary School and Pengam Primary School, at the opening of the annual flower festival at the Institute Fleur-De-Lys.

This was followed by a Songs of Praise service at the United Reformed Church in the village on Sunday.

Over the weekend visitors poured into the Institute, to see the amazing flower displays created by volunteers from community groups as well as local schools.

Mr Evans said: “I was absolutely delighted to join Ed and the villages of Pengam and Fleur-de-Lys to celebrate the opening of the festival. To me it really demonstrated the remarkable community spirit we have here in Islwyn. The flower displays were of the highest standard – made all the more impressive by the range of age groups that took part.

“Having visited the event every year since its inception, I am delighted that it continues to go from strength to strength – I pay tribute to all the people who have been instrumental in organising the event.”
