List of Caerphilly County Borough schools affected by teacher strike

The majority of schools in Caerphilly County Borough are to close on Thursday as teachers go on strike in a row over Government changes to public service pensions.

Talks between the Government and the unions broke down on Monday meaning schools across the UK will close.

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers, the National Union of Teachers, the University and College Union and the PCS have all confirmed they will strike on Thursday.

Coleg Gwent has said it will remain open. In a statement on its website, Principal Jim Bennett said: “We expect many of our teaching staff and some managers will be involved in this and we anticipate this will cause some disruption.

“The college will remain open however and we will aim to provide support for learning through our Learning Centres and from those staff who will still be in college that day. There are no exams scheduled on this day.”

A spokeswoman for Ystrad Mynach College said some lecturing staff in the UCU, ATL, NUT and AMIE unions will be on strike.

She said: “Except for a very small proportion, students finished their programmes of study last week and have broken up for the summer holidays.

“This week lecturing staff have been taking part in staff development on site.
“The College will be open, and business support functions will not be affected by the strike.”
