News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Monday July 4th, 2011.

Three community projects in Caerphilly County Borough have been awarded almost £140,000 in funding.

Groundwork Caerphilly, Smart Money Credit Union and Menter Iaith Sir Caerffili will receive the funding through the South East Wales Community Economic Development Fund.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said: “I am delighted that these excellent organisations are being supported. This fund aims to help organisations that have ambitions to develop into economically sustainable organisations within the third sector.

“The programme also aims to build sustainable and vibrant communities through the development of community economic activity and social enterprises”.

The funding is broken down as follows:

  • Groundwork Caerphilly – £25,000.
  • Smart Money Credit Union – £36,000 (over three years).
  • Menter Iaith Sir Caerffili – £77,017.77 (over three years) and £505.66.

The South East Wales Community Economic Development Programme is funded through the European Union.
