A council-backed campaign to breakdown negative stereotypes of young and old has published a report into the issue.
The campaign, called Age is Just a Number, surveyed 650 people from across the UK about attitudes towards age and the impact negative stereotypes can have.
Asked whether negative stereotypes influence our perceptions of age, 95% agreed. The survey also found that for the over 50s, the most common stereotypes were boring, wee, frail and grumpy.
96% of respondents called for more positive images to be used.
‘Age is Just a Number’ aims to promote better understanding, improve tolerance, and help bridge the generation gap between older and younger people.
