Two 11-year-old pupils from the Bargoed area have won a competition to design posters warning parents about illegal parking outside their schools.
Annabelle Romais, of Ysgol Gymraeg Gilfach Fargoed, and Jacob James Cook, of Gilfach Fargoed Primary School, both scooped first prize in the contest organised by Gwent Police.
Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team used the competitions in each school to help improve recent parking issues.
The winning designs have now been adapted and will now be visible outside local schools ready for the new term in September.
The winners received gift vouchers supplied by CC Sports of Bargoed, a medal and a certificate.
All the children that took part also received a goodie bag packed full of gifts kindly supplied by Gwent Police, Fireside Coffee Lounge Bargoed, Le Fleur Flower Shop Bargoed, Pretty Woman Bargoed, Bargoed Chamber of Trade and Bargoed and District Crime Prevention panel.
Bargoed police officers, PCSO Lisa Humphries and traffic warden Katrine Wright, presented the winners with their prizes at a school assembly.
Traffic Warden, Katrine Wright said: “The poster competitions have been a great way to interact with the local school children and to educate them about road safety.
“Throughout the process the children have got to know their local neighbourhood policing team and now feel comfortable stopping and speaking with us.”
