Budding cricket stars of the future in Risca have been given a boost thanks to a new bowling machine.

Risca Community Comprehensive School secured funding for the training machine through the Community Focused Schools initiative, and it is already being put to good use by its pupils.

The indoor training facilities for cricket are available to the school and to members of the public, who can hire the machine when they use the leisure centre.

Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education and leisure, said: “We are keen to provide the best sporting facilities for our schools and communities and this is the latest in a series of exciting schemes across the county borough. The partnership working between a number of different services has created this fantastic opportunity for the school pupils and the local community”.

The Community Focused Schools initiative is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
