Caerphilly Council to freeze school meal prices

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:45, Friday August 5th, 2011.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced it will freeze school meal prices.

Meal prices in both primary and secondary schools will remain unchanged when the new school year starts in September.

Cllr Colin Mann, deputy leader of council and cabinet member for finance and sustainability, said: “We are mindful of the pressures facing our residents at the moment so we are keen to do everything possible to ease the situation and help families make savings.

“We will continue to provide our pupils with nutritious, tasty school meals using quality suppliers to ensure standards remain high, but we will not be passing on extra costs to local parents this year.”

Council leader Allan Pritchard added: “Not only have we frozen school meal prices this year, we have also introduced a 0% increase on council tax bills and we’ve put a freeze on councillors’ allowances.

We are able to make these decisions thanks to our careful financial management that has placed us in a strong position to address the challenges facing public services at the moment.”

The council has said it will consult on any future price changes to school meals.

i see that the wheel has come off the Steslth tax wagon so beloved Caerphilly c.b.c. ruling Nstionalist Group. nnot obly have the public seen through this costly stunt and relised thst this policy will lesd to higher council taxes in the future, but the realisation that an increase in charges doed not automatically lead to higherincome,as cost rises take up falls it could be that high 'price meals means less meals sold.

Thank goodnes the lsw prevents this plaid controlled council from charging for educstion and libuary books, for it if a cetainty that if thr Nationalist hsd the power to do so "Stealth "Taxes woud be applied here

for thebenefit of Mr Smith (a former Plaid Councillor) would see the difference between a council out to save the Taxpayer money and a penny wise pound foolish council like CVaerphilly, the incompetance of CBC will cost Caerphilly taxpayers

drearly in he medium turn. Pedrhaps if Mr smith does not like critisism of Paid Cmru's actions he might attempt to ensure that those actions are in the publics interest
