Gwent Police is warning residents to ensure their bikes are securely locked-up.

The warning comes after three bikes worth £2,500 were taken from a house in Ystrad Mynach.

The stolen bikes were a Cube Limited Mountain Cycle, Orebea A30 Racer / Sports Cycle and a Forme Viitesse Racer / Sports Cycle

Alan Webber, Partnership Inspector for Caerphilly Local Policing Unit, said: “More people are obviously using their bicycles throughout the warmer weather, particularly children, and we want to make sure that their property remains safe and secure.

“When they are not using their bikes, then by locking it with a bike chain or storing it in secured property, such as a garage, they will reduce the likelihood of it being stolen by opportunistic thieves or by scrap metal collectors who will sell on the bike for scrap value.

“Even if you are popping into the house or shop for a short while, it’s always important to secure your property.”

If you have any information about any bicycles that have been stolen, then please contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
