The One Show presenter Alex Jones is to co-present this year’s BBC Proms in the Park being held in Caerphilly.

The TV host will be joined by Only Men Aloud musical director Tim Rhys-Evans for the event being held on Saturday September 10.

Performing for the very first time at BBC Proms in the Park will be Wynne Evans – also known as Gio the Go Compare opera singer. The well-known tenor will perform the popular aria Nessun Dorma, taken from the final act of Puccini’s Turandot.

Joining him for an evening with a magical theme will be soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, hoping to enchant the audience with her performance of The Sandman’s aria from Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck and Somewhere over the rainbow from The Wizard of Oz.

The BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales will be at the heart of the event, joining the UK-wide revelry of the Last Night of the Proms, adding their musical magic to the evening under the wand of Tecwyn Evans.

This will be his first performance as conductor at BBC Proms in the Park, as he leads the feast of music that includes Harry Potter’s Symphonic Suite, to Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the theme music for the Merlin TV series.

Bringing the summer festivities to a close with classical music and fireworks, families and music lovers are invited to bring picnics and flags, and to join in with the theme of ‘magic and wizardry’.

Nearly 2,000 tickets have already been sold and can be bought online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com or by calling The Visit Caerphilly Centre on 029 1088 0011 to book over the telephone.

Tickets are just £10 per adult. Children 12 and under are free with an accompanying adult. Tickets on the night will be sold at £12.
